getting close now...

Yep, so the day is quickly approaching when we will get to meet our son.  This week it got really real, really quick.  We had our hospital tour last week, childbirth class twice this week and our last ultrasound on Thursday.   Everything looked great on the ultrasound and the major news it that at 36 weeks, he weighed close to 7 pounds...  Yep, pretty big boy apparently.  Could he be headed to the Big House to play for Michigan instead of catching for the Baltimore Orioles???  Only time will tell, either one will be OK though.  I have already practiced announcing his name, number and position though.  Both career paths sound pretty good.

I really can't describe the feeling of looking at a tv screen and seeing Brady moving inside of Carly's stomach.  We found out that he really likes to hear his own heartbeat too...  I have so many emotions going through my head right now.  The main one is excited though.  Scared is also in there but I'm thinking that particular emotion is always in a first time parent's mind.  I just can't wait till he's here.  Maybe it will be sooner than we first thought too!

So I don't forget...

Small, funny story for everyone...

On Friday when I first got to school, I saw one of my students (now in 9th grade and about 6 foot 4) that I taught my first year down here.  I shook his hand and talked about dumb stuff.  He's a wide receiver on his high school team.  It's pretty awesome to keep up with different kids that I have taught in the past.  Anyway, when I got down to my office I couldn't stop thinking that something just didn't seem right about our conversation.  For about 5 minutes, I couldn't figure it out.  Then out of nowhere, it hit me.  I immediately got up from my desk and went to the front to see if he was still sitting there, he was and here's where the fun began...

I asked him where he got his sweatshirt.  It was the first one of its kind that I have EVER see anyone wear in Houston, Texas.  This is because it said FROSTBURG STATE UNIVERSITY on it.  Yep, that Frostburg.  (The one in the mountains of Western Maryland.  The one where I played baseball.  The one where I met my wife.  The one were it snows 9 months a year!)  He looked at me puzzled for about 5 seconds and then he knew that I had him.  This kid was actually wearing a Frostburg State University sweatshirt, with camo lettering, in front of me, back to the place where he had originally stolen it 5 years ago, FROM ME and I caught him.  His reply to me was, "My uncle gave it to me."  That's when I decided to have a little fun.  The following is an exact transcript to our conversation, well close:

-How did your uncle get it?
-I'm not sure...
-It weird cause that's where I went to college!
-Really???
-Yes.  I played baseball there.
-Cool.
-Do you know where Frostburg is?
-No, where?
-Maryland.
-Oh.
-I'm from Maryland.
-Cool.
-I met my wife there.
-Wow.  Is it cold there? (smiles)
-Yes it is (straight face... no smiling)
-Cool.
-Well, it's just weird cause there's not many people that live here that went to Frostburg.  Two of them live in my house! (3 if you count Camden)
-Yeah.
-Well, you have a nice day man.  I really like your hoodie.
-Thanks Mr. Baugher.

I was blown away by this exchange.  By the look of the sweatshirt, I'm surprised I didn't catch him sooner.  It appeared as if he only took it off one day a week to be washed.  As a parent, when your child brings home a piece of clothing that's not theirs, wouldn't you say something?

Friday morning was hilarious.

Big game today in Baltimore.  I know a LOT of Ravens fans so, take it easy on us today and Go Texans!
